Bobby's Bush!

2 comments:

Bobby Shaw by Harrison Marks on the Chinese Garden Set and published in Nature's Intention Vol.1 No.1, Harrison Marks - A Series of Natural Art Studies (1969).  A beautiful collection of uncensored images with plenty of full bush on view!

Not one of GHM's models but still a well photographed young lady from the late 1950's.  A well developed chest cut off in it's prime, when her parents realized the type of modelling she was doing and put an abrupt stop to it! What a shame, as I'm sure she would have had an illustrious career had she continued, or should I say I saw 'Big' things ahead for her!

Monique - A Walk on the Wild Side!

4 comments:
If you read this blog more than once you will know as well as publishing images of my favourite models from the 1950's and 60's by GHM and other photographers, I'm also interested on what happened to them beyond. Did the models carry on, did they retire or did they take up a totally unrelated career, are just some of the things that interest me.  Some are easy and already well documented such as Margaret Nolan, Pamela Green and June Palmer, but for others it is less well known what happened to them.

Well thanks to a great article by Gavcrimson on his blog a little more light has now been shed on Monique Devereux (Monique Leitzau).

A Monique Devereux (Original) Posing for GHM with a Studio Background.

Gav's article aptly called 'All the boys love Monique Deveraux' goes into detail about the less glamorous side of modelling and amateur photography through the eyes one of such amateur photographer named Dave.  I won't go through the details as you can read Gav's article from the link above, but what it does do is give us a small insight (via Dave's own page) about Monique.

Dave's own page about Monique (Here) throws up some interesting things about Monique post her GHM days, such as ...
  • She lived and worked around the Tipton/Dudley area.
  • She worked as an assistant in a photo shop in Walsall and modelled for a photo studio attached to the shop.
  • She allowed a more 'hands on' type of photo session for some amateurs.
  • Her boobs were FALSE! She had silicone implants, this I did not know, but I suppose the hands on approach confirmed this!
  • She continued to live and work in a bar in the Wolverhampton area.
Dave also comments that he also photographed Paula Page and that she was fairly short and this made her boobs looked disproportionately large. He also enjoyed the softness of her boobs before she stopped modelling, which indicates another more hands on approach.

So for all the glamour we see in the publications of GHM, there was also a more down to earth side to the models, where they continued to model and earn a living through the avenues of amateur photography. Much to the pleasure of those such as Dave that had the opportunity to photograph these models and then share the outputs with us.

Thanks go to Gav for a heads up on his article and ultimately Dave for sharing his insight into Monique!

Pamela Green - Messing About on the Water!

No comments:

Two shots of Pamela Green posing aboard a boat by Harrison Marks.  Possibly the 30' motorboat named 'Pyewacket' bought by Pamela and GHM in January 1959?  Unknown as to where these were first published, but re-printed in 'Just Pamela Green' by Nostalgia Publications.

The boat also appears in the glamour film 'Nautical Nudes' starring Paula Page and Caron Gardener in 1960.

June Palmer & Inspector Maigret!

4 comments:
More June images from the great John W archive!  Not only does John provide me with the 'normal' (read topless/nude as normal) type of June image, but he has also provided me with some different from the norm images of June. These give an insight into the life of June Palmer outside of her modelling work and the following images fall into that category.

These images are of June Palmer in a blue traditional Spanish dress attending the Chelsea Wine Festival in 1962.  The first two are originals from John, but the last is common on the Internet, but obviously from the same event.

JP posing in a blue traditional Spanish dress (original)

June (second left) with actors Rupert 'Maigret' Davies and Paul Carpenter (original)

The most interesting image is probably the middle one where she is posing for an official photo at the Chelsea wine fair with Rupert Davies and Paul Carpenter, both renowned actors of the time.  Rupert Davies with his pipe was best known for his portrayal of 'Maigret' in the BBC series, which ran for 52 episodes between 1960 and 1963.

I suppose this could be classed as one of those 'media' events that today are so common and every actor or 'star' turns up for to be seen in the press.  Back then it seems to have had a little more class, especially if it involved JP!

On closer inspection the middle photo may also have been taken at a different time than the other two.  June seems to be wearing different white shoes and her hairstyle differs, but still worth keeping together.

Vivienne Warren & Ann Walker

A double feature! Vivienne Warren & Ann Walker posing against a window at Ewhurst Manor and it looks like very little editing was needed on AW's pubic region, as it looks shaved to me!  Originally from an edition of Kamera and re-published in Magnificent Models No.1 by Nostalgia Publications.

Rachel Wells & The White Silk Dress (Original)

4 comments:

June Palmer as Rachel Wells (short dark wig) in a long white silk dress, taken in a hotel room on holiday, possibly Corsica again!  This comes from a set of 6 images and on looking, most of the images of JP as Rachel Wells seem to be on location somewhere warm or on holiday and taken on 120 film format by Arthur Howell.

Note: All images, original or otherwise have been carefully edited and restored where required and a lot of effort has gone into this and subject to this copyright notice.  Please feel free to share, but kindly link back to this original if sharing elsewhere, Many Thanks! - Wonder

A beautiful image in high resolution of June Palmer from Pix Magazine Vol.2 No.5, Page 2.  Providing another internal shot of Ewhurst, as you can just see the driveway through the window and that vase appears in other shots around the house! Scanned from John W's own private collection and restored by me :)

Another black and white original that comes from the same set as this shot of June posing nude on a sheepskin rug!  It's a new week and I hadn't published a shot featuring a sheepskin rug, so just had to do it!

Liza Martelle

2 comments:

Liza Martelle (Dawn Grayson) - We know GHM had a propensity to give his models aliases when they modelled in wigs, such as Rita Landre (Pam Green) and Mary Stephan (Caroline Coon). What I didn't know is that Dawn Grayson had one as well when modelling in the blonde wig above! Apparently she was known as Liza Martelle, a beautiful strip artist from the crazy horse in Paris.

GHM revealed this in an interview for Fiesta magazine in 1976 called ' Harrison Marks Rides Again!'.  He also said that she was in London for an appearance and due to his sheer charm and youthful sex appeal he was lucky enough to get her before his camera ... and other places!

Well I never! That's the first time I have come across Liza Martelle and a photo similar to the one above appears with those comments.  So, unless there is another Liza Martelle or the photo was wrong, then it's Dawn Grayson :)

June Palmer - Girl Illustrated No.37

No comments:

As promised, June Palmer from the pages of Girl Illustrated Vol.4 No.37 (1970).  The magazine shows three monochrome pictures, where she is shown wearing unzipped trousers and has shoulder length hair. The single colour shot appears to be an older photograph. GI states that she is only rarely modelling at the time, but has returned to the pages by popular request. This would tie in with the published date of 1970 and JP's 'retirement' from public modelling, until her re-appearance in 1977.

June Palmer - It's The Naked Truth

Another June Palmer image, this time from an unknown magazine and I'm not sure if this was the only image or part of a set/article?  The front door of Ewhurst can be seen in the background.

June Palmer Coloured From Girl Illustrated

It feels like a bit of a June Palmer day, not that there is anything wrong with that!  Another coloured version of June Palmer from my friend Oldiznewagain over on Tumblr and it always amazes me how good he gets the skin tones on these!

The original comes from Girl Illustrated magazine published in 1970 and is part of a set of 4 images and I'll be publishing the full set of images later.
