Almost finished with the A’s so I thought I’d start on the B’s and this little beauty of the very petite and gorgeous Barbara Halks By Harrison Marks. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad photo of Barbara either in my collection or out on the net, but then there isn’t much that can go wrong with a body like that!
Gisa by Paul Pantha (1967)
A perky blonde named Gisa taken by Paul Pantha on location at some house in January 1967 from a set of contact sheets sent over by Kevin. This is another case of different names for different people, in this case both the model and the photographer.
The photographer Paul Panta is none other than Terry Sparks and Gisa is more well known as UK model Susan Shaw, with these shots of her being taken early in her career. If you go take a look at her over on VEF she went on to have a long and varied career, including appearances in Parade, Fiesta and Mayfair and plenty of Page 3 type work. She also had a foray into the more explicit and hardcore work as well as posing with James Hunt and appearing on numerous record covers!
Terry also went under the name Paul Pantha as a photographer when he worked for Russell Gay, before later using his own name. I have several other sets of contact sheets by Paul Pantha with more to come, but isn’t it sad that I recognised the photo’s as Terry’s work immediately, which he has since verified.
A beautiful shot of Susan posing on the doorstep in panties and a nice open toweling top, which must have been all the fashion back then as she has matching toweling swimsuit in other shots 🙂
Annlyse Back on Black (Original)
Another beautiful shot of Annlyse posing on a black background for Harrison Marks from an original medium format negative. A great shot of Annylse in the studio and I do like the shots GHM took using a black background and lighting highlighting all the right bits! This shot was also printed in Kamera No.36 P28 (1960) although the image was reversed on that page.
Ann Walker – Bedknobs & Boobs! (Original)
Ann Walker posing nude on the bed taken by Harrison Marks. A very clever shot with the position of Ann and use of shadows by GMH as the bed post and shadows cleverly hide anything too explicit. I think I’ve mentioned before, but I found out this wasn’t an actual bedroom in one of GHM’s flat, but an actual set! I lose the plot with his shots as to those in the studio and those in his flats.
Mayfair Makes a Film!
An interesting article from the pages of Mayfair Vol.2 No.1 (January 1964) about several well known models making a film for Mayfair. The models in question were Dawn Grayson, Geraldine (Gerry) Brown, Lee Southern, Diane (McNeil) Grant and Pauline Dickenson. All of which apart from Pauline are well known on this blog, especially my favourite in the pink tights, Dawn Grayson.
Now I’m not sure if a film was really made or this was just a set up for the article, but I do know Mayfair did make several super 8mm films later on featuring Syliva Bayo, Mandy Kuypers and Penny Mallett. So maybe they did make the film, but I’m sure I wouldn’t have missed such a film featuring Dawn and friends? Anyone know if it really exists?
An Alluring & Ample Ann Austin
Ample Annie! (Original)
Annette Johnson – Another Look! (Original)
Another model that reinvented herself several times throughout her career was Annette Johnson. This shot from a restored 35mm negative shows her from the late 1960’s with shorter darker hair than the platinum blonde look from her early career. Her figure also seems to be filling out now and that bosom expanding from a beautiful set of her posing next to a drinks bar in someone’s home. Also another model form the start of the alphabet 🙂
